A shocker

I doesn't matter that the author is upfront with his opinions; the problem is that he seems to think that they are a substitute for facts, detail, and accuracy. This book is hopeless as a resource for anyone wanting a genuine introduction to the legal traditions of the world. The level of historical knowledge displayed is shocking, e.g. "Augustine in the sixth century had begun to teach the necessity of inner reflection and spirituality", even though he died in 430AD. There is worse, much worse.

This is an essential resource for anyone who is serious about a comprehensive and multilateral perspective in establishing the rudiments and fundamentals of objective research into global prospects for a global infrastructure. Much as Roman Law and Univerality owed its genius to lex gentium, this approach follows a contemporary revival of respect for localized structure in diversity. Any approach to global perspectives must begin with these insights or will fail to encompass a truthful foundational respect for cross cultural realities and traditional priorities that can enhance or impede true coordinated development on the greater encompassing levels.

It should be read together with "Takings: private property and the power of eminent domain" by Richard A. Epstein, to understand a basis of the US system.

About the Author

Rajesh Gunasundaram was born in India in 1978. He currently works as a Software Architect for Kryptos Consulting Services, Chennai, India, handling various web and mobile application development activities.

In 1996, Rajesh started computer programming after joining a Bachelor of Computer Science course and has been programming ever since. In 1999, Rajesh joined the Master of Computer Applications course and passed with distinctions in both degrees.

After receiving his bachelor's degree (from Sri Sankara Arts and Science College, Kanchipuram) and master s degree (from Sri Chandra Sekharendra Viswa Maha Vidyalaya University, Kanchipuram) in Computers, he began his career as a software engineer. He has architected and programmed desktop, web, and mobile applications, as well as various services from ASP.NET Web Services to WCF and ASP.NET Web API for over 13 years.

In 2011, he moved to Cardiff, UK, for an assignment to migrate C# Business tier components to BizTalk Server for his client named Confused.com, a British price comparison website specializing in insurance and financial services. After completing the migration successfully, he returned to India in 2014 and got the opportunity to develop mobile applications for iPhone and iPad. He was involved in developing a mobile CRM application and a logistics GPS tracking application for iPhone and iPad.

Mathieu Nayrolles was born in France and lived in a small village in C�te d'Azur for almost 15 years. He started his studying computer science in France and continued in Montr�al, Canada, where he now lives with his wife. He holds a master's degree in software engineering from eXia.Cesi and another in computer science from UQAM. He is currently a PhD student in electrical and computer engineering at Concordia University, Montr�al, Canada, under the supervision of Dr. Wahab Hamou-Lhadj.

As well as his academic journey, Mathieu has also worked for worldwide companies such as Eurocopter and Saint-Gobain where he learned how important good technical resources are.

Marvelous book. A starting point for the Lionel Hobby

I have had several copies of the previous edition of this book but kept giving them away to neighbors of mine. It is a wonderful look at one of the oldest and most successful toy companies in the world: Lionel Trains. This book covers everything: humble beginnings, postwar boom, near destruction at the hands of famed veteran of the "Red Scare" Roy Cohn to it's present day owners. If you had Lionel trains as a child or have always loved them from afar I cannot tell you how much fun this book is. With stories on all of the most famous cars and the people behind the genius it's an engrossing read.

Highly recommended reading for toy train enthusiasts

The Story Of Joshua Lionel Cowen & His Lionel Train Company is the fascinating story of the man who made the electric toy train one of the most popular toys for boys and hobbies for grown men in the last century. Published in part to celebrate the Lionel Train Company's 100th Anniversary, All Aboard! is also a testament to how this producer of toy trains dealt with the competition of electronic games at the end of the 20th century and is experiencing a surge of popularity at the beginning of the 21st Century. Original published in 1981, this new, revised and updated celebratory edition of All Aboard! is welcome and highly recommended reading for toy train enthusiasts in general, and Lionel Train collectors in particular!

Excellent book but not enough words

As toy train collector I say without reservation that this book is the best there is in documenting the history of Lionel Trains. e.g., it lays to rest several ongoing myths. One, the founder (Joshua Lionel Cowen) was a wonderful, loving, caring father and employer. He was, at times, these things. But like many successful people he was also a bully, tyrant, and egomaniac who could, and did, plant the knife of financial greed squarely in the back of his son (Lawrence Cowen) and long time, devoted employees. Chapter 7 covers this unsavory and little known side of the founder.
A second ongoing myth laid to rest is that Lawrence Cowen (son of the founder) was a daddy's boy who came along for the ride (!) and was merely a corporative decoration with none of daddy's marketing and inventive genuis. Quite to the contrary, Lawrence Cowan had to placate a father who knew it all and was jealous of the son. Lawrence was responsible for the most successful selling train (by far) ever made by Lionel, the beautiful Santa Fe F3 diesel introduced in 1948. The father had nothing to do with the success of this train as he was still locked in to what had been successful (steam engines) but was rapidly being replaced by new technologies (diesels).
The book is excellent-including an additional chapter covering Lionel's history from 1982 to the present-but in my opinion too many pages are devoted to pictures (whose number abound in the book) at the expense of more detailed documentation. When the first edition of this book was published (1981) many of the individuals who were players in Lionel's heyday were still alive. The author should have interviewed these individuals in much more depth. He does some interviewing of the players, but only a very few and hardly in depth.
All of the above said I reconmmend this book as the best source of facts regarding the history of lionel Trains; facts presented in an interesting "can't put the book down" manner.
